George Mason, Jr. to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)

Dr. Sir

I found your Packets last Night on my coming Home, Today Mr. Jay & Mr. Ridley sent theirs nearly as large: I am afraid from the Numbers & size of the Packets that I shall meet with some difficulty at the Barrier of Britany where they are often very strict—In case they shou’d offer to open them shall I suffer it or shall I desire them to detain them. I have very little Baggage of my own—only a few old Cloathes—can carry your Packets with the greatest convenience am only fearful they may meet with some difficulty in entering Britany I am Dr. Sir Your sincerely

G Mason J

I will thank your Grand Father for a passport—perhaps his mentioning in it that I have Packets for America may remove any difficulties at he Barrier.
