The great Reputation which Youve obtaind by the Noble Cause in which You transact encourage me to entreat your Interest and Protection on the following Occation. I must first ask Pardon for my Presumsion, in troubling you, as not having the Honour or your Personal acquaintance, but I hope your goodness will forgive the freedom of a Strainge Officer who places his Hopes in you.
I have a Brother who has the Honour to serve as Captain at present in the American Service; and my only wishes are to sacrefice my Life under the same Government. I have the Honour to serve his Imperial Majesty these 9. Years past, during which Time I have applied myself to the Languages of this Country, and to the Act of Fortifycation, but now as there is no Appearance of a war in Germany, and my only vocation is to serve by the Sword, so I entreat your Interest in my favour, and I hope that the Regiment and Proprietor under whom I serve, will sufficiently attest my Conduct as to convince you not to have interested yourself for an unworthy Subject. I am persuaded that several Gentlemen have to thank you for their Fortune, and likewise the Delight you take in oblidging your Friends: These are the Motives Sir which embolden me to trouble you, and to entreat your kind answer for which I shall be ever thankfull and have the Honour to remean Sir your most humble and obedient servant
