Richard Bennett Lloyd to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
London 10th December 1779—
Dear Sir,

Being informed yesterday by Mr. Udny (a friend of Mr. Alexander’s) that you are married to one of the Miss Alexanders—permit me to offer to yourself and Lady my wife’s and my most sincere congratulations—and we rejoice in being convinced you are as happy as we wish you to be—. I understand that Mr. Williams is likewise married into the same Family—I shall be glad to know which of the young Ladies is now Mrs. Franklin—and likewise the Lady that is now Mrs. Williams—. I take it unkind, Dear Sir, you have not informed me of this union as I ought have partaken of your happiness sooner—. I inclose you a letter for Mr. Carmichael as I understand by the papers he will be shortly in Europe, as soon as he arrives I beg you will not fail that he gets it immediately, and I beg to know if it is certain that he is coming—.

Mrs. Lloyd writes with me in best compliments to yourself & Lady and be pleased to present our affectionate respects to Doctor Framklin. I shall flatter myself to have an answer from you very soon and believe me to be,— Dear Sir, ever your’s &c: &c: &c:

Richard Btt. Lloyd
