To Isaiah Thomas (unpublished)
Philada. Decr. 27. 1787.
Sirs

I received the Letter you did me the honour of writing to me the 14th of last Month, proposing a Dedication to me of a Dictionary you are printing. I had not before, any Acquaintance with that Work; but by the Specimen you have sent me, it appears to be on a good Plan, and likely to be useful: I therefore wish you Success in your Undertaking. Your Execution of the Typographical Part, will do you Honour. And if you think the Inscribing the Work to me, may in the least recommend it, you have my Consent, tho’ I think it will sufficiently recommend itself. With great Regard, I have the honour to be, Sir, Your most obedient and most humble servant

B. Franklin

Mr. Isaiah Thomas.
