I am too sensible, my Dear Franklin, of your friendship to attribute your not writing me to any improper cause, & I wish you to be assured that my silence has been only occasioned by the weakness remaining after a very disagreeable, &, I may add, dangerous disorder, from which I am just recovering. As I have not wrote to America for a long time I wish to be informed whether you know of any safe oppertunity to Philadelphia, by which I could inform my friends of the cause of my long silence, & of my returning Health. If any oppertunity should offer which parts before I could write I would be much obliged to you if you would make my Compliments to the Person and request him to do me the favor of informing my family of my convalescence, & that I will write them by the first oppertunity with which I am timely acquainted. The early departure of the Post obliges me to conclude with Compliments to your Grandfather, Drs. Bancroft & Foulke, Mr. Mayo & all my Acquaintance.
