From — Bousie to Edward Bancroft (unpublished)
Paris Sunday noon

Mrs Bousie presents her compliments to Doctor Bancroft, and is much oblidged to him for the note he was so good as write her this morning— As the passport has been writ some time ago to Calais for Capt. Meriton, Mrs Bousie sends the inclosed letter, being the only thing in her power to produce as a proof that this Court has granted a passport the letter is from Mr Audibert captain of the Port of Calais by which he acknowledges that it was arrived there— Mr Bousie never had the passport in his possession as it was sent directly from the Scretary’s Office to Calais, and it is very certain that no English ship could come in the present circumstances to that port to load wines without a permission— If there should still remain the smallest doubt it might be incerted in the passport sollicited, that it was granted in consequence of one having been first obtained from the court here, which if not produced at same time then to be of no effect.

On the other hand if the above mentioned circumstances are satisfactory it will be very oblidging if Doctor Bancroft will use his interest to have it granted as soon as possible, as it is the only thing that retards the business— A person shall be sent for the answer if Doctor Bancroft can say when he would wish him to return for it.
