Sir,

I received yours of the 19th of April last, inquiring after John Typer. He is I believe still living, but I do not know his Place of abode; it is somewhere in the Country. About a Year since, he was here in Philadelphia, and I gave him some Employment in my Type-Foundery; but he soon left it, and returned again into the Country. He had heard of the Money left him in Birmingham, and consulted with me how he should get it over. I advis’d him first to go home himself: which he did not approve of. I then told him that if he would give a Power of Attorney to Dr. Priestly or Mr. Wm Vaughan of London to receive and hold it subject to my Draft, I would as soon as I heard that was done, pay him the Value here. This he approv’d, and said he would do it, but went out of Town without doing it; and I have not since seen him. He impairs his Faculties I think by a Habit of Dram-drinking, which is a great Pity, as he is an ingenious Workman in several Branches, and might thrive in this Country if he could be sober and steady. I have never heard of his being married and believe he has no Children. I will make Enquiry for him, and when I learn any thing more of him, will communicate it to you. With great Regard I have the honour to be, Sir, Your most obedient humble Servant

B Franklin

May I take the Liberty of requesting that you would present my affectionate Respects to Dr. Priestly and Mr. Boulton
