Jonathan Williams, Jr. to Arthur Lee (unpublished)
Nantes March 8. 1779.
Sir

In consequence of Informations that you had made Indorsements on my accounts which I deem injurious to my character, I wrote a Letter to Doctor Franklin and Mr Adams of which the Enclosed is a Copy. I suppose you have already seen it. If not, you have now an opportunity not only of knowing my Sentiments, but (if possible) of justifying your assertions.— I therefore call on you, Sir, to request with me a Meeting of all the Gentlemen named therein, for the Purposes mentioned, and then, the Character of at least one of us will in this Instance be established.

The Bearer is a Gentlemen and will receive your answer. I have the Honour to be Sir, Your obedient Servant

Jona Williams J

Athur Lee Esqr.
