To Marie-Silvestre Grand (unpublished)
Philada April 23. 1788

I have before me the Letter you have done me the honour to write to me, and I acknowledge the Justice of your Reproofs, as well your Goodness in executing the Commission tho’ I had not address’d it to you. It is not yet come to hand, but I expect it daily. My Daughter will be very happy in receiving it, as she, and several other good Women, her Friends, are impatient to be at work in making such Blankets as that you were so kind to give me, and which affords me so much Comfort and Pleasure. I see it is likely to become a Fashion here.

I cannot in conscience blame ma femme for taking another Husband, after her former had been gone two Years to another World. Neither Decency nor Affection could require a longer Widowhood, and I am glad to hear she is again well married.

My Grandson is at his Terre, or he would certainly join with me and this Family in best Wishes of Health and Happiness for you and yours. I am ever, my dear Friend, yours most affectionately

B Franklin
