John MacMahon to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
August the 4th. 1782
Dear Sir

I have been to wait upon the respectable Doctor Franklin about a fortnight ago in the afternoon, and inquired for you, he told me you were in good health and gone out. I don’t think your breakings out can be of any consequence. Take for seven or eight mornings a pint or chopine of whey in which a handful of water cresses & half a handful of [Famitaire] are to be infused and then strained. Afterwards a gentle dose of Physick or three pints of the eaus épureés de Passy, in which an ounce of [Glauberi] salts are to be dissolved. If the eruptions continue after this Physick eight or ten baths will, I hope, intirely dissipate them. I am very sorry that I have an engagement every day this week till almost the end of it; but I’ll wait upon you without Ceremony as soon as possible, having nothing more at heart than doing whatever may be agreeable to you and yours, and proving how truly and affectionately I am Dear Sir your most humble and obedient Servant

J. MacMahon
