Jonathan Williams, Jr. to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
Nantes Sept. 23. 1780.
My dear billy,

I received your Favour of the 14 Sept. covering a Letter from the brother in Law of Mr. Mercier an Armourier (or in his own Words a Negociant) of Charleville.

I return this Letter without any other Comment, or Defence of his Charges against me, than the Copies of 6 Letters I have at different Times written to this man.

If the Doctor will give himself the Trouble to read these Copies he will readily see the Answer to be given to Mr. Rasquin. His protector Mr. Mercier lost his Cause with me, and I hope I never shall lose a cause with any Chicaneur.

I beg the Doctor to excuse the Trouble this affair will give him and am my dear Billy tout a vous.

Jon. Williams
