I take the liberty of laying before your Excellency and Council the inclosed papers.

The Letter and appended Deposition marked N., containing proof that a certain Alexander Campbell was not in actual service in Capt. Long’s Company of Northampton County Militia. Altho’ by the paper marked N 2 it appear he was entered in the Pay Roll and that Pay Roll sworn to by Capt Long. I was appioned of this Case some time ago, but it was after I had issued a Certificate to Campbell for his pay amounting to 7. 14s. 4d. specie I however applied for and regained possession of the Certificate. I beg leave to submit whether a military trial or civil action shall be ordered against Capt Long. I am &c
