The American Commissioners to Abraham Whipple (unpublished)
Passi, June 5th 1778
Sir

We received your letter by Captain Jones and congratulate you on your safe arrival thro’ so many dangers. As we believe you will get repaird much better and sooner at Brest, than where you are, we wish you to repair thither with your Frigate with all possible expedition. Mr. Schweighauser will address you to his Agent there, who will provide what is necessary. As Strangers are subject to great impositions we recommend it strongly to you, to be as attentive as possible to the quality and quantity of what is furnishd, that the public may be served as well and with as little expence as may be.
