An English gentleman who has lived many years at Paris, and who makes frequent Visits to England, informed me this Evening that it was necessary to get a Pasport in order to leave France; that he had never quitted Paris without procuring one; that indeed they were seldom demanded at leaving Calais: but if it should happen that the Passport should be asked for, I should infallibly be obliged to wait at Calais ’til I could get one from hence: if this be so, you will much oblige me by addrissing a line to Mr le Lieutenant de Police to beg the favour of him to grant one: I am told that it is a mere matter of course: and indeed I can hardly think it necessary.
