To Joseph Ignace Guillotin (unpublished)
Philada June 8. 1788
Sir,

I did myself the honour of writing to you by the preceding Pacquet, acquainting you with the terrible Misfortune our Friends met with in going down the Ohio. There has since been a Report that the one who escap’d wounded, was in a fair way of recovery: But as I have in all this time receiv’d no Line from him, nor any further Account of him, I begin to fear the worst.

Three of your Pacquets for them remain still with me, agreable to their last Request that I would keep in my hands any Letters for them that might come to me, till I should receive from them Directions where to send them. I did not answer your Letter of Feb. 2. expecting to do it better when I should receive the Lights their Observations might afford me. Probably the Company may now be discourag’d and drop their Project. If not, they may when they arrive here; depend on my best Counsels and Service. I have the honour to be, with great Esteem, Sir, Your most obedient and most humble Servant

B Franklin

I receiv’d yours of March 19.
M. Guillotin
