The monthly Statements, which have passed through your hands, of the representation in Congress since the first of November last will readily account for your not having yet received a full answer to your Letter of the 19th September last. With respect to that paragraph wherein you say “You received from the King at your departure the present of his picture set round with diamonds usually given to Ministers plenipotentiary who have signed any treaties with that Court, and it is at the disposition of Congress” I have it in charge to inform you that Congress have no objection to your Accepting and retaining the picture presented to you by his Most Christian Majesty.
