Copy of a letter from Count de Mercy Argenteau to Mr Franklin dated Paris 30 July 1784

Sir I have recd. the letter you did me the honor to write this morning & will without delay transmit the Contents to my Court. The sentiments which the Emperor entertains for the US of America make me foresee the satisfaction which his Majesty will have in entering into engagements with them which will be mutually convenient & advantageous. I have no doubt but that he will immediately take the necessary measures for this purpose to [treat] with you & with Ministers plenipotentiary who are appointed.
