I, Thomas Digges of Warburton in Maryland and a Subject of the United States of America (tho at present Resident in England, for reasons which, in prudence, cannot be herein explaind) Do by these Presents Certify unto all and every Person whom it may concern; that I was principally aiding to and assisting in the procuring the annexd Passport for the Brigantine adventure, from His Excellency Benjamin Franklin; and which Passport was obtaind for the sole purpose of removing from hence, or from Ireland, to the United States of America, the Property and Effect of Mr. Henry Mitchell, Merchant of Boston (who in December last came from America in the Cartel Ship, calld the Polly to England, and which said Cartel Ship was lost to the said Henry Mitchell by a regular seiqure at Bristol) and of Captain Benjamin Carpenter who was commander of the afforesaid Cartel. I Do also Certify that the said Brigantine Adventure, as well as the Stores and Effects on board Her, appears to me to be principally the property of the said Henry Mitchell, altho it is expressd in the annexd passport to be that of Captain Carpenter; whose name was necessarily inserted by His Excellency Benj. Franklin, as Himself was the personal applicant for the Pass, Mr. Mitchell being then in a process of Law to recover His said Seizd Cartel Ship, and not having it inHis power to go to Dr. Franklin Himself. Mr. H Mitchell having now got His Effects from Ireland to London, means to push out directly for Boston or some port within the Laws and jurisdiction of the United States of America, and not to touch in Ireland, as was his first intention when the annexd Passport was obtaind. And in order the more effectually to secure His said voyage, and for the better cover of His purpose in case He should be met with and examind by any British Cruisers on the voyage, He has armd His said vessell the Brigantine Adventure, with fourteen Carriage Guns, (six Pounders) other necessary Stores, mannd Her with about thirty men, and procurd for Her an EnglishLetter of Marque Commission.

I Do hereby further Certify, that I am neither directly nor indirectly concernd in the said Brigantine, Her Cargoe, outfit, or future purposes, no no ways concernd in trade with the said Henry Mitchell. In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal in London this 10th day of May AD 1780
