Jonathan Williams, Jr. to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
Nantes Jan. 21 1783
my dear Billy

I have just reced. your kind Favour of 15 Inst. and thank you for your Care of my Letter to Lord S. I am also much obliged by the Doctors note. The Packets you sent for Barney by return of Pierse were immediately put into the Hands of Mr. Barclay and I thought the acknowledgment of them to be an affair of course in his official Character, independant of this I thought my house had acknowledged them: You may depend on this having been properly delivered.

I have directed my house to write from L’Orient the success of their enquiry about Mr. Hodgsons request. The affair of the Cannon foundery is totaly foreign to me & my affairs. We are in a State of Suspense relative to Peace or a War. I shall be obliged by as early a hint of what may be known as possible. If there are any Commissions pray send me two, one for the Hitty Brig 8 Guns 25 men belonging to me & to Sam White Esqr. The other the Brig Olive Capt. Fletcher same description & I will send you the Bonds in return. I am my dear Friend most affy. Yours.

Jona. Williams

are you going to Italy? p.s. Inclosed is a list of sundry articles sent you 14 days since. I have taken the Liberty to address them all to you & have given directions to Messrs. J fleury & Desmadiers to arrange with the waggoner that takes them from Orleans not to enter Paris without first [?]ging his waggon at Passy, as you will by that means not only save the droits d’entrée for yourself but that of your friends. You will please to let the concernid know when they arrive & they will pay each one their part of the carriage &c—
