From Jonathan Williams, Jr. (unpublished)
Cowes Wednesday morning
Dear and honoured Sir

The Bearer is the Captain engaged to take you. I shall endeavour to have all Things on board before you arrive, so you will not meet me here, unless an unforeseen Difficulty with the Portsmouth Custom House Officers should prevent my getting on board, for the Mother Bank where the Ship lays, is out of this District. I am in hopes however to do as I wish, by the obliging Desposition of Mr. Arnold the Collector here, who besides the Order of Government had previously received a Letter from the Duke of Dorsets Secretary recommending your affairs to his particular Caire. Don’t let the mattrass’s be forgotten and everything will be right. Mr. LeVeillard will have the satisfaction of seeing your Ship and accomodations for I shall have the packet alongside and shift the Things without using any Boats. I am as ever yours dutifully

J Williams

Capt. Truxtun is with you so I say nothing more about your being in a hurry, for I   all obligation of dispatch off my shoulders when the Commander is present.
