My dear sire,

The two or three small bills Excht. I was under the necessity of troubling his Excellency Dr. Franklin abt. sometime ago, have given me more plague than any thing of the sort ever did before—They are drawn on Mr. De Chaumont & accepted by him the 2d of April last, & being at 30 days right have been due upwds. of 2 Months—I presented them to Mr Chaumont junr. who told me they wd. be paid off by Mrs. Jauge & Cottin, Bankers, Rue Richlieux—I went to those Gentlemen abt. 4 weeks since & recd the Money, after trifling a day or two, for one of the bills—Being now in want of the Cost for one of the others I am told they have no funds in their hands for discharging them—I have wrote to Mr De Chaumont on the subject, & beg you’ll do me the favr. to speak to him in my behalf—should I be disappointed in receiving the Money it will put me to an exceedingly great Inconvenience—My most respectful Compts. to Dr Franklin, & believe me to be, Dr. Sr. With great Attachmt.
