Henri-Maximilien Grand to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
ce 2 Avril 1784

I am sorry to hear Labbé de lisle lauteur du Poeme des Jardins has kickt the Bucket whether par presentiment or want of Esteem from the Man he has given you the letter to in my favour, I must say he has not shewn me the least Civility which I have felt very much.

I have been Tolerably happy here however, considering that my friend Ld. Pemb absence lets me to shift for my self. & quoique les plaisirs soyent un peu plus clairsemés ici qu’à Paris il y a neamoins quelques aguemns that make up for it. I am exceedingly sensible of the friendly things expressd in your Letter for me & in return can assure you there is no love lost between us.

the Duc of Chartres is here attended with a vast number of french Noblemen, but the grand Topic of conversation is the Elections chiefly the contest of Fox against Sir Cecil Wray & Lord Hood, there has been a few skirmishes I hear to day. the first however is ahead of them till now. I dont Know if he will be able to Keep his ground.

My dear Sir please to make me a petit Cadeau of a Square of your Grand father’s soap for my little Provision is out, also the receit for makeing it or the place to get it from.

In any thing please to command me for I am on all occasions ready to serve you. Friend Little Page is as silent as a Dormouse, when you see him please to tell him so. adieu mon cher ami, tout a vous de coeur.

Hy. Grand
