William Temple Franklin to Charles-Guillaume-Frédéric Dumas (unpublished)
Passy, 1. Augt. 1784
Dear Sir,

According to your Desire I have the honor of acknowledging the Receipt of your Letter to my Grandfather of the 24th of last month with its Inclosures, which you may rely on it shall be forwarded by the first Opportunity. My Grandfather, in whose Welfare you so kindly interest yourself, continues much the same with regard to his Health. He cannot perceive of any Increase or diminution in his Stone, and it does not much affect him since he has left off going in the Carriage. He has been long expecting the Permission of Congress to Return home, and repose himself, but they have paid no Attention to his Request, but on the Contrary have been cutting out new Work for him. We are daily in Expectation of Mr. Jefferson’s who has in Charge the Instructions for the joint Commissioners.

Adieu, my dear Sir, I am ever most respectfully and affectionately Yours

W.T.Franklin
