Haveing to advise you of my writeing you per last post from Masterland aquenting you of my arrival there with the Sloop Pheanix of 80 tons 20 Men 8 carige guns, I saild from Virginia first of may the Sloop is ownd by Saml. Cad morris of Philadelphia henry and thos. Brown of Portsmouth Virginia henry Brown haveing applyd to the Governor at Williamsburg for a Commission he being out of Blanks I was under the desagruible necessity of sailing without a Commission 10th of June fell in with brig Robt. of London from New York with 164 hogheads tobacco 20 pipes saltpetre 9000 ? 4 Casks Indigo the last article I took out with what provisions he coud spare Both the vessals being short haveing no Commission Bad weather and wind Easterly was under the desagruible necessity of letting him go, Upon my arrival at masterland my second Mate a disaffected person Reported this circumstance to the Brettish Consul here who accordingly made a demand of the Indigo which I have absolutely Refusd unless obligd by the Court of Stockholm as in my oppinion we have a right to distress our Enemies Commission or no Commission Shall esteem it as a feavour if youll send me a Commission per first post please Inclose it to Mr. henry Greg merchant Gottenburgh Youll oblige Sr your most obdt. humble servt.
