From Robert Aitken (unpublished)
Philada. 11 March 1789
Sir,

Anxious to proceed with all possible expedition in reprinting the first Vol. of the Societie’s Transactions and am now arrived at the 49th. page of the Appendix—as the most trouble-some part of this work is gone through with, I expect very speedily to print the inclosed Title, Laws, preface and contents &ca.

I would beg leave to recommend some order to be taken with respect to the inclosed first sheets of the Vol, and that they be returned to me with such additions and Alterations as the Philosophical Society shall Judge most proper.

It has been hinted to me by Mr. Rittenhouse that some of the Society had a desire of Adding Mr. Rittenhouse’s Oration at the end of this 1st. Vol. I desire to know if you would—grant me 2/6 more to each Vol. for this addition, it will make nearly 45 pages More, of my type and Measure of the page. I submit the above Observations to the Order of your Society. I am with respect, sir, your Most Obedient humble Servant

Robt. Aitken

Addressed: The Honorable / Doctor Franklin / President of the Philosoph: Society / present
Docketed: Rob. Aitken’s letter dated 11th March 1789 read in Society. same day & order Taken—C.
