May it Please Your Excellency

Encouraged by your Excellencys most amiable Character, I humbly beg Leave to address you.

Please Your Excellency! I am a Native of Hungary and a Subject to His Imperial Majesty of Germany. My Birth and my Education in the Military Line gave me from my youth an a prospect to emply my Abilites in that point, with honor to myself and to the Service of my Souverain and my Country. This been my Sole Ambition by every Occasion and I obtained in the late War in Germany 1756 & Segg. the Ranck and my Commission of a Major; having served during the whole time of the obmentioned War as an brave soldger and Officer to the fullest Satisfaction of my Souveraine and Commander, concerning which, I can produce honorable Testimonies in my possession; But! after the Dissolution of the said War I had the Misfortune of meting with an absolute unavoidable Rancounter—by which Means I was obliged to forsake my Commission and even my Country self. This unhappy affair, accompanied with many other dissagreable Consequences, brought me at length into this Metropolis and here to London. Anxious however to execute at last my long intending Dessein and Inclination to try my Wellfar and establishment in that beblessed Country, America, and to render myself again Servisible to the Comunity in general, but in particular to the satisfaction and Approbation of their great—and High-Mighteness of America; I most humbly presume to Offer myself and my Services in that respect to their and Your Excellency’s intire disposal—and Acceptance of which, I may perhaps not be deemed as quite undeserving as I flatter myself been not unacquainted with Several Languages, nor unexperient in Husbandery, Myning, Melting and Mechanical-Arts—of which later in particular, I have made Several discoveries and improvements to this Country Since my being here, and of which I can produce authentic Certificates of respectable Characters.

I conclude and beg only Leave to relay intirely upon your Excellency’s high patronage and protection, which to obtain, Mr. Lawrence has given me the most joyfull and flattering hopes and whos Condescending Goodness will be pleased to Convey this to your Excellencys receival. I am with every degree of Respect Your Excellencys most Obedient and most humble Servant
