My dear old Friend

Having at last tho’ late arrived at some Leisure from publick Affairs, which I shall never again be engag’d in, I have begun to make some Use of that Leisure in looking into my private Concerns which have been long neglected. Among others is a Bond I entred into with Mr. Grace in 1748, for £109 borrowed by him of Mrs. Stanley. As he resided in the Country, I was constantly called on for the yearly Interest, which Mr. Grace allow’d me for in our Settlement of March 28. 1757. and I have ever since continu’d to pay it till lately that the Principal has been demanded of me, and I have been oblig’d to pay that also, and take up the Bond. This therefore I am now to request you would be pleas’d to settle with me, together with what other Account there may be between his Estate and me arising since the last mentioned Date. How we shall do to meet I know not, as I am too old and infirm to make you a Visit, which I should otherwise do with Pleasure were it only in regard to our ancient Friendship; and I find you do not often come to Town. If therefore you will be pleased to name a Time for such Settlement I will get my Son in Law Mr. Bache to wait on you for the purpose, unless it may suit you better to appoint some Person to act for you here. With sincere Esteem, and Respect, I am, my dear Friend, Yours most affectionately

B Franklin
