Dr sir,

Give me leave to introduce to your Acquaintance Mr Hopkins & Mr Gibbs, two agreable young Gentlemen who go to France for the purpose of improving their Fortunes, and their Understandings,—you will find them Men of business & pleasant Companions—I shall be much obliged to you, for any Civilities you may shew them—

Mr Hawkins Delegate from the State of North Carolina arrived in town this Morning & brings the following Important Intelligence—

On the 8th of September, twenty Miles from Monks Corner, Sixty from Charlestown General Green had an Engagement with the Enemy the Battle was bloody—We have lost three hundred Men in killed & wounded. Coll Washingtons horse were almost all cut to pieces. Genl. Green at last gained the Field killed & wounded five hundred & took two hundred prisoners—Mr Hawkins saw several Letters from Officers who were in the Action giving this Account in particular two to Doctrs Brown & Johnstone who were at the hospital then in North Carolina desiring them to repair with all possible dispatch to the Army as they were exeedingly wanted— I am Dr sir your most obedt. & very hum servt
