Charles Williamos to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
Paris 24th June 1785
Sir

In the course of Conversation with friends some days a go, I happened to speak of the difficulties the worthy doctor laid under, for a passage in time to america, as well as the expediency of his being accomodated or speedily and conveniently as possible; those friends feeling the importance of the subject, have mentioned it to the Marshal of Castries, whose answer is sent to me, to the purpose that he is exceedingly sorry that all small vessels are at this moment emploied, by which means it could not be possible to send such a one immediately as would suit his Excellency, but that some arrangements which are to take place imediately, being to determine whether the packets are to sail from L’orient or Havre, if the last, every order Shall be given for the best accomodations if from L’orient a proper vessel shall be ordered to convey his Excellency from Havre to L’orient, and the time of the Packet’s sailing accelerated so as to sail time enough to arrive in America before the Equinox, but if the doctor could wait a little, such a King’s ship shall be ordered as will give him every possible Conveniency.

I was in hopes my dear sir that this matter could have been managed without my appearing in it—but as I must follow directions, You will I hope do Justice to my Motives, mention it to your worthy father: and enable me as soon as possible to give an answer.

that my endeavours to shew my great respect and unfeigned regard may be acceptable in the sincere wish of Sir your most obedient devoted Servant

C Williamos
