Dear old Friend!

Reading that a Colonel Jefferson is appointed Minister from the United States to the Court of France, I begin to fancy that you may perhaps return soon to america, in which Case I shall lament that I have not seen you once more, but beg you to take with you my poor thanks for your constant affectionate Kindness to me and my Brethren at all times; and in many Instances, in time of Peace and in time of wretched war; whose Hatchet may it be buried for ever. I have divers times been, as I thought near taking a Trip to or through Paris, but I have been prevented and thus miss’d the Pleasure I had made to myself of seeing you again, either in France or here. If you return to America I dare say, you will be as ready as at all past times to do Service in your Power To your Bethlehem Friends, so justly dear to me. If my dear little friends—Mrs. Hewson and her Children are near or with you, you will assure her of my Love to her and hers, and my Compliments to the Family at Passi and the Grands. I inclose this to Mr. Du Pont, not knowing exactly whether you are still at Passi or where. Take this little Billet from your very grateful and very affectionate and most obliged and obedient Servant
