I take the Liberty to write to you on account of my present Circumstances in London, but, no doubt, your present occupations have hindred you to send me an immediate answer, and would not trouble you again with a second Epistle, did not my situation force me to it. I was taken prisoner as I had the honor to mention to you in my first: had I had the good fortune of two hours more, I should now be among our friends. I have been deprived of everything, and was left with the sole Cloths I had on. I was brought to portsmouth, from whence I proceeded to London, and by chance applyed to Messrs. vaughan and Towgood to engage them to be of some service to me. They promised to help me in case you would send them an answer proving that I am indeed known to you. I make bold to beg of you, sir, when your Business will Leave you a moment of Leasure, to have the kindness to write a few words in my behalf to those Gentlemen, who seem disposed to give me all necessary assistance, with which I shall soon find means to join the brave deffenders of Liberty, which is dear to all those who know it’s worth, for which I am ready to spill to the last drop of my blood, as I did venture in the Last troubles of poland, which epoch you are well acquainted with. I dare to rely entirely on you, Sir, and am sure my Case will apologize Sufficiently for the Liberty I take, being mentioned to a Gentleman as human and as generous as you are.

They make great preparations here against the friends of Liberty, tho’ they speak of a Reconciliation. Some Counties have voluntarily subscribed for new Levies, which amount to 30,000. However most part of the nobility is in the Opposition. They say also that the french are upon the point of making an alliance with the Americans.
