May it Please your Excellency

New Castle 10th February 1788

The Congregation of the Episcopal Church at this place, presuming on your private as Well as Illistious public Character, have requested me to make known to you the Almost lost Situation that our House of Worship and Burying Ground was in, haveing little more than the Wall’s of the House left, the Congregation being Verry Small, Cannot Complete the good Work in hand without the Assistance of the Humane and Generous more distant; Our inability to the Task, and the Zeal which at this time Seem’s happily to flow, buoy’s us up with a hope of Your Countinanceing this good Work, We have Already Covered the House, and are Anxious to perpetuate what our fore Father’s lay’d a Foundation for.

Any Small Assistance Your Excellency may be pleas’d to Contribute Will be Accepted by the Congregation with the highest Sense of their Gratitude. I have the Honor to subscribe myself with the Highest sentiment’s of Esteem Y ur Excellencys Most Obedient servant.
