Elkanah Watson, Jr. to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
Nantes. 15th. March 1782
Mr. William Franklin Passy
Sir

Nothing but a pure wish to oblige Mons. Dampmartin (an amiable Officer who’s brother is serving as Captain of artillery in deffence of our country) could Induce me to assume the liberty of recommending him to your notice; but the slight personal acquaintance that has existed between us, and being entirely devoted to receive in return with open arms any friend of yours that you may think proper to recommend to me, weither here, or in America, must plead my excuse: and am after my most respectfull compliments to your honour’d grand father. Your Very Hl. St.

Elka. Watson Jr.

Addressed: Mr. William Franklin / Secy. to His Excellency / The Honbl. Benja. Franklin Esq / Passy. / Per Mons. / Dampmartin
Notation: Watson, Nantes 15 Mars 1782.
