Sheffield July 29th 1786
Dear Sir

I wrote by the last Packet to my much esteemed friend the Dr, a Letter of merely hond, ye. I now trouble you at the request of the Revd Mr Preston of this place, at whose house I now reside. Mr John Morris, Brother of Mrs Preston went to New York in the Spring of the Year 1783 with a Cargo of Goods, which he sold to good account from thence he went to Philadelphia in the Year 1785, where he made a purchase of an Estate, as he then informed his Relations. They have not heard of him Since, and are anxious to know whether or not he is living. As I would gladely oblige them I beg leave to trouble you to enquire for him; and if you can procure any Information concerning him, that you either inform them of it, at the Vicarage Sheffield, or me in Great Russell Street, Bloomsbury. In this you will most singularly oblige Dear Sir Your Faithfull and most humble servt

Having been confined all the winter with the gout, I came hither for a change of Air, and am now in pretty good Health Mr Morris has been formerly a Capt in the Dragoon guards, and Sold out at the peace.
