From Mary Stevenson Hewson (unpublished)
Off the Capes. Tuesday Oct. 17, 1786
Dear Sir

We are arrived in sight of your land and hope soon to see you. I should be glad if you could procure a lodging for us just to put ourselves into immediately; we shall want three beds for ourselves and one for my maid, that and one room to eat in is all we care for. Mrs. and Miss Wilkes are with me, and I have promised to take care of them till they go to New York.

We had the satisfaction of seeing Mr. Ingraham who dined with us last Saturday by whom we learnt you and yours were well. You may believe the pleasure that intelligence gave to your affectionate

Mary Hewson

If Mr Williams is with you tell him I saw his wife and daughter well two days before I left London.
