John Jay to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
Saturday afternoon
Dr. Sir

In settling with Mr. Grand it will be necessary to ascertain the value of Dollars in french money—I think the Resolution of Congress of 7 March 1783, respecting these minister’s Salaries fixes it at 5 Livres odd Sous pr. Dollar—My Papers being in a Trunk that is [?], I cannot have Recourse to my Copy of this Resolution—be pleased therefore to favor me by the bearer with an Extract from that Resolution—whatever the Value as estimated by Congress may be, I think it shd. on this occasion be the Rule agreable to which my acct. shd. be paid— yours sincerely

J. Jay
