I do hereby certify, that M. Air de la Motte has served me as one of my Secretaries’ during near   Years in which Office he has conducted himself uniformly with great Diligence, Exactitude, Fidelity and Ability, and so much to my Satisfaction, that from a Sense of his Merit I have twice voluntarily and unask’d made Additions to his Salary. I part with him now merely because having resign’d my public Employment I have no farther Occasion for his Service. Given at Passy this 19th Day of May 1785.
