Sir Edward Newenham to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
Marsailles 30 Decr: 1782
Dear Sir

I hope I may now congratulate upon the full establishment of American Liberty, & if my wish coud do it—I sincerely hope, the United States may preserve their Liberty, & encrease their Consequence, for Ever

I am realy Jealous, that I have not had an answer to any of my letters; I have wrote several; however I flatter myself, that the disappointment, has been occasioned by the Important Matters now before you—

My Eldest Daughter, has been induced to give her hand to Mr: Folsch the Danish Consul here, not with my approbation, any farther, than, that I left her to her own Choise, after stating my objections—

I leave this, as soon, as I have the favor of your answer, with some Letters of Introduction to Florence & Leghorn—as Lady Newenham is entirely a stranger in that part of Italy—

All this family join in sincerest respects & esteem to his Excellency & you—wishing you many returns of the Present season—I have the Honor to remain, Dear Sir; with Real Esteem your most obt: & very Huble. st.

Edward Newenham
