Sir

The Society for the relief of free Negroes &ca. having elected several foreign gentlemen honorary Members, Dr. Rush and I were directed to draught some short letters to inform them of the Circumstance to be presented to your Excellency for signing. I have the honor to send them to you and take the Liberty of requesting that such of them as meet your approbation may be signed to day as there is a ship bound for Europe, which will depart by 4 o’Clock. I have the honor of being Your Excellency’s most respectful Servant
