From Major Ellinkhuysen (unpublished)
[c. 1786]

Major Ellinkhuysen sends his most respectful Compliments to his Excellency Governor Franklin, and (as an officer of the Militia of this State) takes the liberty of troubling his Excellency for a few lines to Mr. Charles Ellinkhuysen, Merchant in Rotterdam (Major E’s father) merely to state to him that the lands which Major E. has lately purchased, on the West branch of the Susquehanna, about ten Miles from Sunbury, are in an improved and valuable part of the State. Major E. finds, by this day’s papers, that the Letterbag of the Amsterdam pacquett will be taken from the post office at 7 o’Clock this afternoon: he will therefore wait on his Excellency for his Commands at 5 o’Clock.
