Chester State of Newhampshire 22 July 1786
Dear Sir

Permit me to introduce to you the bearer, the Revd Robert Annan of Boston, who is going to Philadelphia and will hand you this. the design of which is to remind you of the relation in which I stand to you: to this I am emboldened, notwithstanding the great superiority of your Character and station in the world, from the known benevolence of your temper and politeness of your manners. Dear Sir, My Grand mothers Name was Sarah Franklin, and she was your Honour’s Sister. My mothers Name Dorcas Davenport. My Father’s name Anthony Stickney. My Father and Mother formerly lived in Newbury port, But both departed this Life in this Town. My Mother August 1774. My Father the October following, and two Children survive them, One Daughter and myself. My own family consists of my Wife one Son and three Daughters. Meaning respect to you Sir, I called my son, Benjamin Franklin, He is 13 years old last April. Sir my ability being small by reason of a number of large debts my Parents left me to pay, and my Estate all in Lands, Taxes heavy, and no sale to be made of Lands: I find myself incapable of giving my Son such an Education as I should wish to give him to support the Dignity derived from your Name and his relation to you. Wishing you abundant happiness thro’ life, and Glory and Immortality in the world to come I am Dear Sir your affectionate Kinsman and humble Servant
