The Supreme Executive Council of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, To all to whom these Presents Shall come, Greeting: Know Ye, That in consideration of the Sum of One hundred and twenty five pounds eight Shillings and nine pence lawful Money, paid by His Excellency Benjamin Franklin Esq. into the Receiver General’s Office of this Commonwealth, there is granted, by the said Commonwealth, unto the said Benjamin Franklin————— A Certain Tract of Land, called “Settle” situate on the North West Side of the River Allegany—— in the County of Westmoreland, Beginning at an Hickory on the bank of said river thence by Lot No. eighty one North two degrees and an half West two hundred and ninety eight perches to a post thence by Lot No. eighty nine North eighty seven degrees and an half East one hundred and fourteen perches to a post thence by Lot no. eighty three South two degrees and an half East two hundred and ninety four perches to a Spanish Oak on the Bank of said River thence down the same One hundred and sixteen perches———————————— to the place of beginning, containing Two hundred Acres and four tenths————————— and allowance of Six per cent. for Roads, &c. with the Appurtenances. (Which said Tract of Land was surveyed by Joshua Elder——————— Deputy Surveyor of District No. 5 within the Tract of Land appropriated for the Redemption of the Depreciation Certificates, by an act of Assembly, passed the twelth day of March, 1783, entitiled, An act for the Sale of certain Lands therein mentioned, for the Purpose of redeeming and paying off the Certificates of Depreciation given to the Officers and Soldiers of the Pennsylvania Line, &c. and which said desribed Tract is marked in the Survey and Plan of the said District, No. 82 and was sold to Richard Bache— at public Auction, he being the highest Bidder whose(?) leased the same to the said Benjamin Franklin ————————— To Have And To Hold the said Tract or Parcel of Land, with the Appurtenances, unto the said Benjamin Franklin—— and his Heirs to the Use of the said Benjamin Franklin his————— Heirs and Assigns for ever,————————— free and clear of all Restrictions and Reservations as to Mines, Royalties, Quitrents, or otherwise, excepting and reserving only the fifth part of all Gold and Silver Ore, for the use of this Commonwealth, to be delivered at the Pit’s mouth, clear of all charges.
