Sir

The terrible torments, wich the french prisoners have suffered in america from the English hand, Could perhaps Discourage some men, and avert them from going to fight for the interests of your Country. but the Cause that put arms in your hands is so just that mean spirited souls only may fear a Cruel death under the Colours of Liberty. if you think Sir the Congress would accept of the services of a young man, very zealous for the good of your Country; I should go very willingly offer me him. I dare ask your honour the permission of Coming myself into your house, to know if I may hope to execute my project. if the Congress does not want some officers, at Least in hearing the answer from your own mouth, I shall have had the glory of seeing the most illustrious Man of this age.

I am with Respect Sir of your honour the most humble and obedient Servant

the Knight of pommereuille
