May this please your Exellency

The Bearer of this is a young man a natif from Strasbourg, of respectable parent’s and of a tolerable Education, he Can Speak, read, and write, English, French, and german, and has travel’d both by Sea and Land....being animated with nothing less than a true Zeal for the american Cause, would be glad to find (through your exellency’s protection) a Ship Carrying american Colours in wich he might pass as a Volunteer, and Should this his undertaking prove Succesful and meet with your exellency’s approbation he would no only endeavour to do his duty as a man, the least thing he Can do to deserve the good opinion your exellency might have had of him) but! would likewise think himself under the greadest obligation (to your excellency) for the way to honour you will have open’d to him the glory to suceed is the only wish of your exellency’s most obedient and most humble Servant
