From William Short (unpublished)
Paris April 8. 1787
Sir

In the absence of Mr. Jefferson I have the honor of forwarding to Your Excellency, by Mr. Norris of Philadelphia, a letter committed to my care by Mr. Le Roi—a packet left here by a person not known—and a letter for the Philosophical society of Philadelphia.

Supposing it may give pleasure to your Excellency, I take the liberty of adding that all your friends here whom I have the honor to know, are in perfect health—and never cease to enquire about you with the same zeal and earnestness which you formerly knew them to possess, and which can be produced and continued only by that interest which you always inspire.

I hope you will easily be persuaded sir, of the pleasure which it gives me to be furnished with this occasion of offering the hommage of that profound respect with which I have the honor to be, Your Excellency’s most obedient and most humble servant

W. Short

His Excellcy. B. Franklin Esqr.
