Portsmouth 5th. Decr. 1782.

This is to certify whom it may concern that Mr. James Carr was in the service of the United States of America, and sailed from Philadelphia, carpenter of the Active Packet Captn. John Hodge; which Packet was taken by his Britanic Majestys ship Proserpine, and the said Mr. James Carr was many months a prisoner at Forton near Portsmouth where he conducted himself with great propriety and good behaviour.
