Sir,

I received the Letter you did me the honour of writing to me the 25th of October past—but being far from Carolina and having no Acquaintance or influence in that country I do not see how I can favour you in your affair with Mr. Gillon. I have however communicated your letter to a gentleman of that country now here who informs me that Gillon is in good circumstances, and that upon your suit there the courts will oblige him to do you justice.

I am glad to hear that you are happily situated in your new country and under so good a King since we could no longer enjoy the advantage of retaining you as an American. With great esteem I have the honour to be your most obedient humble servant
