I am directed to inform you that at the last meeting of the New York Society for promoting useful Knowledge, you was chosen an honorary Member. institutions of this Nature, like ours in their Infancy, can only hope to manifest respect and to derive Improvement from such Appointments, and that this was the wish of the members of the New York Society, in your appointment, was manifested by the very general approbation with which it was made.

I beg you will beleive, that I have a particular pleasure, in obeying the orders of the society upon this Occasion, and communicating to you this Instance, of the Gratitude and Esteem of so respectable a part of my fellow Citizens. I have the Honor to be Sir Your most Obedient Humble Servant
