William Temple Franklin to David Salisbury Franks (unpublished)
Passy 16 Decr. 1781
My dear Sir,

I received your Letter of the 10th. Inst. & immediately communicated the same to my Grandfather. The Letter you will receive from him at the same time as this, makes it unnecessary for me to answer yours in every particular.

It is impossible for us to recollect the particular Dispatches you brought, the Rect. I inclose therefore only mentions them in general. I do not doubt but that you’ll find it sufficient.

Inclosed is a Copy of a Note from Mr. Grand to me. I could give him no satisfactory ansr. relative to the chaise—Pray inform me what became of it, in case I should be again questioned on the Subject. Inclosed is a letter for you.

As you will soon leave Brest it is useless to send you a letter to Count Hector, & the more so as my Grandfather has wrote to the Monsr. de Castries about you who will not fail to give Orders in Consequence.

Adieu, my dear Sir, Excuse the Hurry in which I write & believe me, Yours very affectionately
