Sir

As the annex’d letter to Mr. Silas Deane, the Original, as well as duplicates of which, I have sent by not less than 7 or 8 Vessels, most of whom arriv’d in France, has not procur’d me an answer; I am necessitated to request, you will apply to him in my name, and on his neglecting to lodge the power granted to him, to dispose of my property, with our Minister at the Court of France; you will instantly, and in the most Publick manner caution all persons from purchasing the Certificates I had empower’d him to sell for me, advertising the numbers and value of each Certificate which I herewith send you, as it will then be unnecessary to mention his name: shoud Mr. Deane lodge the power as directed, please to send the proof requird in his letter, otherwise be so oblinging as to send me your advertisement, as I flatter myself it will enable me to draw from the Consular office in this City, where they are now lodg’d, the Original Certificates; I must request your forgiveness for the liberty I have now taken, and assure you that I am with great respect & esteem Sir Your obedient hum Servt.

As I am apprehensive it will not be practicable to dispose of Certificates, for money lent the States; you’ll greatly oblige me by early information on that head to enable me to draw mine from the Consular office, shou’d You not succeed in the Sale. Mr Jonathan Nesbitt to whom I enclose this letter will forward me at all times any letters you may favor me with, I am sir Your hum Servt.

p.s. If in the course of three months after receiving the present you have not dispo’d of my Certificates, you will please to take the steps necessary to enable me to obtain those I have deposited with Mr. Oster; the mode necessary to pursue, I have procur’d from him, which you will please to follow. Monsr. Deane remettra entre les mains de l’embassadeur Americain a la cour de France, la Copie Originale signe par Monsr. Oster, avec l’original de la procuration qui lui a été donnée par Monsr. Shee. Monsr. Deane certifiera au bas qu’il n’a disposé d’aucuns des certificates du loan office, qui y sont compris et en cas qu’il en ait vendues quelques uns, ils les detaillera avec beaucoup de soin—Le Ministre en fera autant des copie qu’il jugera [at bottom of page, to be inserted here: two or three Copies will be sufficient if sent by the best Vessels.] a propos, qu’il certifiera veritables, les pieces cy dessus detailles restant entre ses mains sans le rendre a monsr. Deane.
